I had just come inside after spending a few minutes outside on a brisk Montana winters night when I got the call from Merak's breeder announcing the birth of "my son". I remember gazing at the constallations in the northern sky until the early hours of morning, too excited to sleep in anticipation of things to come in my life with my new Belgian puppy.

Hours after picking up my new bundle of joy, I knew that I could thank my lucky stars as this match had been made in heaven...and so he was named. Even when not with me, I can look to the night sky and see Merak, part of the Big Dipper, shining down upon me. Truly a gift from the High Heaven's.

This song, "Keeper of the Star's" by Tracy Byrd, is dedicated to my very special, once in a life time boy. It seems unreal that the author has never met Merak, as this song seems written for him.

It was no accident
Me finding you
Someone had a hand in
Long before we ever knew

Now I just can't believe
You're in my life
Heaven's smiling down on me
As I look at you tonight

I tip my hat
To the keeper of the stars
He sure knew what he was doing
When he joined these two hearts
I hold everything
When I hold you in my arms
I've got all I'll ever need
Thanks to the keeper of the stars

Soft moonlight on your face
Oh how you shine
It takes my breath away
Just to look into your eyes
I know I don't deserve
A treasure like you
There really are no words
To show my gratitude

So I tip my hat
To the keeper of the stars
He sure knew what he was doing
When he joined these two hearts
I hold everything
When I hold you in my arms
I've got all I'll ever need
Thanks to the keeper of the stars

It was no accident
Me finding you
Someone had a hand in
Long before we ever knew
